Heat Treatment & Mechanical Testing

G & O Springs Heat Treatment and Mechanical Testing

spring heat treatment

Heat treatment and mechanical testing are integral parts of the manufacturing process

All springs require a heat treatment of some sort to relieve the stresses induced by coiling. Some materials need to be heat treated within 4 hours of coiling while other materials are precipitation hardened or have multi stage heat treatments. These processes are critical to the performance of any spring and nearly all of the in house heat treatments we conduct are verified by way of a mechanical test (Tensile) which helps to ensure that the material has reached its desired properties post heat treatment.

We do not recommend the use of conveyor ovens for spring heat treatment as the uniformity cannot be guaranteed. All of the springs we produce are batch heat treated to ensure that they receive the correct processing.

To support this we are NADCAP approved for heat treatment and mechanical testing, our ovens are compliant with AMS2750 Instrument Type A and our mechanical testing is in accordance with ASTM E8, ASTM A370 together with other customer or international specifications as required.

I have been working with G&O since October 2019 and I could never say a bad word about this company. I have always been supported with important and critical items and as a company they are meeting my personal requirements. The business relationship with G&O is strong even during the hard times of the COVID-19 pandemic. G&O is self managing the VMI system each week I am up to date with any part number supplied by them. I would recommend anyone at anytime a collaboration with G&O. Tomasz Grabarek Material Controller - Incora
